Goal

Create an easy and intuitive one-stop shop of wedding creatives

The goal is to make it easier for the user to find their favorite wedding creative with as little effort and time spent on the app as possible while ensuring that the design stays simple and intuitive.

Discovery

Problem

What's happening?

More than ever, wedding creatives are being hired as an essential part of every wedding. However, both clients and creatives still struggle to find each other amidst an increasingly busy digital landscape.

Research

Taking a deep dive into the user’s mind

My very first steps were to conduct secondary research on the current trends and challenges involved with wedding planning. Then came the primary research with user interviews which gave me insight on the thoughts and motivations of the users. Two rounds of five interviews each round was conducted.

Personas

Aligning user needs

By utilizing the key insights, I crafted the two personas that best personified our target users. These personas serve as a great foundation in staying aligned with the users motivations and struggles. Alex’s persona was selected to be the main guideline for the remainder of the project.

Experience Map

Finding opportunities

In the next step I created an experience map that lists out the various actions and events that occur during the search and booking experience. This in turn allows for me to identify when and where problems are popping up, and what opportunities are available.

Task Flow

Optimum efficiency

After identifying the possible challenges and opportunities, I constructed a task flow that maps out the core functions of the app. The goal here is to figure out the user's natural approach to completing the task, and designing a flow that is as direct and hassle-free as possible (e.g. less is more).

Design

Implementing ideas

The initial sketches were done with pen and paper for quick processing and iterations. Then I used Sketch to digitize the design, which will be used for usability testing.

Usability Testing

Identifying what's working and what's not

Next comes usability testing. This is possibly the most critical part of the design process as it explicitly reveals real-time feedback of the app's prototype. A total of two rounds with five tests per round were conducted within a span of two weeks.

Branding

Visual Identity

Invoking emotions through visuals

I wanted the user to feel as though they were a part of something elegant yet organic . The color palette was based on the trending vintage wedding photos and videos that have come to popularity in recent years.

Finished product

Memoir is a mobile app that helps couples in the wedding planning process easily find and book wedding photographers and/or videographers. By implementing core functions such as intuitive listings and filters, Memoir minimizes the amount of time, effort, and stress involved with wedding planning.

Marketing Website

The design of the website is meant to invoke the same feelings as that of the app, which can be described as natural, warm, and elegant.

Post-Note

Design Impact

Influence on the wedding creatives community

By consolidating professional wedding creatives onto a singular and mobile access point, Memoir enables its users to plan for their big day even when they're not at their desk. This also means better opportunities for wedding creatives to showcase their work and fill in open job roles.

Future Planning

What's next for Memoir?

  • Incorporate the design and experience from the perspective of the photographers and videographers.
  • Expand upon the interactivity of the app, including but not limited to the videographer search process.
  • Create a more in-depth business proposal that will entice both users as well as creatives to join the app.
